I just got the front cover for the February 2009 GRACIE MAG...

This is so awesome. Here is my Jiu-Jitsu Instructor RILION GRACIE with black belt Marcelo Braga. It all started last month when I got an email from Senior editor: Marcelo Dunlop of Gracie Magazine in Brazil for some cool action shots of Rilion in Guard, and that's all she wrote...More great photos inside. If anyone is out there that wants to learn Brazilain jiu-jitsu this is The Instructor !!

Rilion Gracie gives his black belt Marcelo Braga a licking,before the razor-sharp lens of our newest collaborator, Ray Santana. I coppied this from inside the magazine how cool...I am now one of there staff and contributing photographers. I will be doing some really cool work for the Gracie Mag this year.

I've been asked several times "So Ray, what's the story behind goodtimes?" Just yesterday Dawn Davis asked me the same question. So, I decided to post this blog, mostly because it's just a great story (at least to my wife and me it is). Here it goes... As most of you know my wife is a teacher. She is always coming home and sharing funny stories about the kids. These stories are always much more amusing to her than they are to me. Well, all except the stories about Justin. About 4 or 5 years ago she had a student named Justin. I loved hearing about that kids wild antics. The things he would say were just so witty for a 7 year old! So one day my wife tells me that Justin topped himself with the story he had told her that day. He said " Mrs. Santana I'm really tired today." And my wife in her maternal concern , asked him, "why", thinking maybe he had a nightmare or something of the sort. He said "actually Mrs. Santana, my big brother was sleeping in my bed and he pissed all over me." Now here comes the clincher...at the end of that matter of fact statement, he shook his head, drew in a long breath, and said...goodtimes. So ever since then my wife and I pepper everyday sentences with gooodtimes. Here are a few: The dog has diarrhea...goodtimes... That was a great dinner...goodtimes. Well you guys get the picture. Oh, and if you are wondering why I spell it the way I do, well that's the way Justin would write it on his notes to my wife because he knew the phrase amused her. The phrase just spilled over into my writing when I started to blog. Justin will never really know how he infused humor in our lives...goodtimes

South Beach With the Davis Family

Saturday evening my phone rings and it's Bob Davis . The Famous photographer Bob Davis , his beautiful wife Dawn , and their awesome kids Bobby and Alli were in town... and of course I said dude lets hang.
My wife and I got dressed and picked up Bob and his beautiful family from their hotel. We took them to South Beach for dinner and ice cream.
We had dinner at Sushi Doraku . If you like sushi, this is South Beach's best sushi spot by far.
Below is a shot of us having ice cream at the awesome GHIRARDELLI ice cream shop on Lincoln Road after dinner.
I finally got to meet their kids. Wow, they are such great kids. They are super polite and kind hearted...they are a true reflection of Dawn and Bob. I love this family! It was so cool to hang with them this weekend.
They are headed to ST. Kitts for a super nice vacation.

Nikon D700 GOODTIMES !!

For you starting off photographers out there not a bad buy when it comes out...

" The plausible looking Nikon D700 rumor. These shots are supposedly from a leaked print brochure for the new body, and show the D700 to be a full frame, 12.1 megapixel, $3000 camera.
This is the same CMOS sensor as used in the top-of-the-line D3, which should bring the amazing low light performance (up to ISO 25600) the new Nikons are getting famous for. Inside you'll find 14bit A/D conversion and 16 bit image processing courtesy of Nikon's EXPEED processor, 51 focus points, a single Compact Flash slot (come on Nikon. Switch to SD already), and a tough magnesium body.
Not bad. Canon was way out in front for a while there. Now the fight is hotting up again. We expect to see a lot of big announcements at Photokina this September ".... goodtimes

Advertising who says it doesn't work!!
So I get a call about a month ago on a Sunday afternoon unknown caller. I'm thinking it's my great friend T the Brit from the UK no it's a super sweet voice on the other line, the call was from Tuscany Italy. She started to say how much she loved my work and if I was available for her engagement party in Miami a couple weeks later. So we met a week after the call at her families house for an Interview everything went great they booked me for the engagement party and what is going to be the most Awesome 3 day event wedding in Florence Italy for 2008. Then at the meeting I started to ask her how she heard about me. OK here we go Grace Ormonde wedding style
Just wanted to say in the last month or two I have booked not 1 but 3 YES 3 weddings with the ad I have in this Awesome magazine... OK people the moral of the story is that advertising does work if your in the right place!! Grace Ormonde wedding style magazine has payed for itself 5 times over for me. I know advertising isn't for everyone. I know it does not work for everybody in the start it was a little slow for me but than all of a sudden it took off. A call here a call there. I don't book them all but the magazine really works people!! I just booked a celeb wedding from the Grace Ormonde mag for this year a couple weeks ago. Hey it's all good if you believe in spending a little money or a lot on getting your name out there. It's not for everyone but if you don't try it you will never know if it can work for you... I know it's not cheap sometimes but you know what, you get what you pay for. Listen if your website and portfolio is up to par and you have nice stuff not a lot of stuff but your best kick butt stuff I would say go for it you would be surprise in the out come. If you would like more info on advertising in what I believe to be the BEST wedding magazine in the US call Paula Lambert at 401.245.9726 she is the sweetest, she can give you all the info you need.

I have been driving PORSCHE cars for about 10 years now. My lease was about to end so a little shopping here little shopping there, once you drive a PORSCHE you will not want to drive any other car.The raw power this car has is Unbelievable!!!
Wedding photography has been so Incredible good to me and my family, being able to photograph Beautiful high end weddings all over the world plus a bunch of celeb weddings you just can't ask for much more. 1) Today is my birthday.

It all started at the Vegas airport again one year later how time flies. Unclemike and I met in the airport at 2:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday and went strait to the Paris hotel. I gave him a helping hand Thursday and Friday for the seminar. I had a blast, he knows how to bring them in!!!

A couple of weeks ago I picked up unclemike from the airport. We started to talk on the way to South Beach. My wife and I took him all over South Beach we had dinner on Lincoln Road. Anyway to make a long story short he left me a Signed Copy of his latest DVD to give away a $200.00 value for free how cool is that from unclemike.
The DVD was filmed in a Toronto wedding I had the pleasure of being there with him and trust me the wedding was awesome. The winner is going to enjoy this DVD big time lots of info!!

Ok people I've got a bunch of emails about Advertising in wedding magazines putting your Ads in there yes no maybe perhaps does it work!!There is an old saying if you don't put in you don't get out!!!
The Classiest most beautiful and coolest and gets so much exposure magazine out I think in the USA for weddings is Grace Ormonde Wedding Style.
It may sound like I'm pushing this magazine and I am because I believe in it, and in them the Grace Ormonde team are all first Class people.
I've had the privilege to work, travel with Grace Ormonde her self and the team and let me tell you by far the best experience ever.

People ask me Ray do you get calls from the ad, dude did you book a wedding from the ad does it work should I Advertise in the magazine what am I going to get out of it.Well what do you want out of it???
Listen as a photographer you want exposure your name out yes but very simple.
1) When your ready to Advertise be sure and be ready to.

2) Have your website up and running looking as sharp as you look when you go shoot that beautiful wedding.

3) Have the most awesome work on your site not 75 or 150 images of the whole wedding to much just 15 or 20 images of the best stuff of the day you know that saying less is more!!

4) Don't expect to book a wedding from the ad 2 days after it's out in the news stand.

5) Your getting your name out there your creating a buzz.

6) It takes time for people to see it the best part is your name is getting out there one, two
Potential clients you may be getting from across the country.

7) Advertisng is not cheap we are Aware of that, but when all said and done and your Site is ready and looking Sharp!!! and the funds are there or not you can charge it nothing wrong with that I say go for it!!

8) Get ready for some Destination weddings.

9) If not an entire page ad you can do if there is space availible an ad in the Platinum List I'm there and it has been AWESOME for me remember everyone is different some people will get more feedback than others its all good your still getting your name out there which is very very good!!
You don't have to be a Rocket sciencetist to know the more exposure you get the better but it doesn't hurt to get your name out there. Some photographers don't believe in it but it's ok it's not for everyone what ever makes you happy!!

I've been very lucky this year I have my first published wedding in the Grace Ormonde Wedding Style magazine and also a Puerto Rico Fashion shoot and also a Chanel shoot, yes I know not one but three published shoots...
This magazine is an Incredible way for you to start getting your name out there for the wedding industry just go to the news stand and check it out there are a bunch of great photographers in there from the West to the East coast. There are lots of different wedding magazines out there you can go out and try a few but just check out who's who and where they are at!!!
Very simple don't be scared to put an ad out there it will always be a good positive thing.

NO FLASH WEDDING

This wedding was such a blast.
They are so beautiful together, happy, fun, and in LOVE!!!
Just wanted to let you guys know we did not use Flash the entire wedding just a little video light at the end for about 3 or 4 minutes and thats it it was awesome.
Above is Deise with one of my Nikon D3 bodies she wanted to get a couple of shots of us. Here is a shot of unclemike below doing his thing I had to drag him out of the wedding he was having to much fun he didn't want to leave at the end of the night, thanks bro for the helping hand!!!

Below is a shot of unclemike AR myself and the beautiful Deise, thanks again to AR for being there, dude your the best. This was the first time for AR to shoot a live wedding with unclemike he had the best time of his life priceless he said. Over 2000 butterflies all over the church so so beautiful.
Special thanks to Nikon for the Awesome D3 without this camera we would have needed flash for the wedding in lots of places...I think the highest ISO we shot was about 4000 plus not much higher this Nikon D3 is so Sick its not even funny. My Arsenal of lenes that I used for the day my Monster 200. 2.0 , 85 1.4 , 50 1.4 , New 24-70 2.8 New 14-24 2.8 70 to 200 2.8 I shot pretty much wide open all day. I think with the shots unclemike and I got AR is starting to get the itch for a New Nikon D3!!! lol. goodtimes

What a blast I had shooting this wedding. Christina and Dan flew in and got away from the chilly weather in Boston for their wedding here in sunny Miami.

City of Miami Police: Hostage Negotiations

This morning when I stepped out to walk my dog, I found my neighborhood besieged by law enforcement. My first instinct was to grab my camera... IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOOT ( no pun intended ). I grabbed my Nikon D3 70 to 200 2.8 and ran to the crime scene. As it turns out I didn't need this lens because I was called in from behind the yellow tape by the Hostage Negotiator to document the whole event. In case your wondering it turned out well. The hostage taker gave up her gun and the hostage too.

It is by far so cool it's like your there shooting this Incredible Destination Wedding with Mike Colón this is Priceless. Nikon D3 at the Movies

Well it started back in Sendai Japan last year when Nikon and I spoke about having a Nikon D3 made for me. As she was being built for me and recieved her 12.1-megapixel FX-format (23.9 x 36mm) CMOS sensor/brain/heart the emails started. She was totally ready to become my work horse here in the US!!! One thing her and I had in common other than getting those killer dead on exposure shots was going to the movies so be it. I promised her as soon as I got my hands on her she got first pick of the movies so we caught a flick this weekend she just wanted some popcorn she was totally into the movie anyway thats that. She is ready for a Awesome wedding I have coming up in the Florida Keys this month so I can't wait. Below are some shots of us in the movies myself in the Apple store in the Falls with my Genius friend Ben he is a Certified Apple Final cut studio pro guy he was Awesome. Just playing around a little with final cut studio 2.0 I got the software last week I'm not a video guy at all but I like technalogy so just learning a bit. Above are shots from inside the Nikon factory as the NikonD3's are being built...
Have you ever tried shooting this purple color flower I recieved a couple of emails from photographers around the US how the D3 would do so here you go right out of the camera it's a bit of a funky color to shoot the D3 I think did a hell of a job!!! The white balance on this camera is dead on. This Nikon D3 is so Sick it's not even funny unclemike and I have emailing and calling each other for the last three or four days about the D3 if it has this do you know about that did you set this or that how funny like kids with a new toy. Nikon you guys are to much thank you for putting out an incredible camera out there...

I will be posting some more images in the next couple of days... Sorry been so busy but just playing around check this out in Adobe Lightroom the Metadata Info 12800 ISO... 1/4 of a sec. I know your normally not going to shoot anything hand held at 1/4 of a sec but just look at the colors not to much noise either......
This shot is on the floor of my Pani watch hand held playing around look above there is hardly any light in the room NO PHOTOSHOP WORK AT ALL!!! The Nikon D3 with the New AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mmf/2.8G ED
created a little extra light for me ha... This camera is SO SICK it's not even funny get your hands on it as soon as you can. Look above there is hardly any noise!!! I love you guys...AD ON the reason I put a cure for Cancer for Christmas wishe is because my Beauitful father that I love and miss so much today and every day of my life passed away last Feb,13 due to Cancer...This disease has taken the life's of so many people and friends in this world I know that there's cure for some but we still have ways to go so that is why I thought I would be and Awesome wish I know I'm asking for alot but hey if don't ask you'll never know!!!

Just a little taste of me and unclemike having fun in the Big Apple during Market Week shooting for Grace Ormonde this is whats going on at 3.30 in the morning after a long 14 hr day shoot yes 14 hours it's a tough job but some one has to do it...Here is a little video clip we filmed in HD but we had to compress it for the web from 97 gig's to a 21 megabite file it's incredible what magic could be done on Apple. By the way his plane only one 34 awards not 35 typo Error. My plane has a tiny built in infared platinum solar back mirror side panel HD camera on board for air coverage.Sit Back and Enjoy. I spoke to Claire on Friday she had told me Jim from Jim Garner photography was in the middle of a commercial shoot.He called me back as soon as he was done and we spoke for a while. CHANEL SHOW LANDS IN MIAMI EXECUTIVE AIRPORT
One of the most exciting fashion shows to hit Miami will take place on September 26

MIAMI, FL—August 21, 2007—The legendary house of Chanel announced today the premiere showing of the Chanel 2008 Resort and Cruise Collection on Wednesday evening, September 26 in South Florida.

Just to let you know it was a Rainy day but that didn't stop the Wedding or us for that matter bad day for hair and makeup or so I heard from the women.
